SH III Distal Tibial Physeal Fracture

MANAGEMENT

  • Analgesia

​

  • Undisplaced Distal Tibial Physeal

    • Above knee backslab​

    • Non weight-bearing

    • SH III and IV discuss with ORTHO - ? CT to confirm not displaced

​

  • Displaced Distal Tibial Physeal Fracture

    • REFER ORTHO :

    • Closed Reduction​
    • Above knee cast

    • Non weight bearing​

Closure of the distal tibial physis  1) centrally

2) medial 

3) lateral  

Due to the assymetrical closure of the distal tibial physis during early adolescence, fractures specific to this stage in life can occur.
