Humeral Shaft Fracture

  • <10% of humeral fractures

  • Consider Non Accidental injury in children under 3 with spiral fracture. 

  • Association with

MANAGEMENT

  • Analgesia

  • Acceptable alignment is within 10 degrees axial alignment.

  • Collar and cuff for middle third fractures.

  • Hanging U slab in some cases.

  • In Radial nerve palsy manipulation is not recommended​​

REFER ORTHO IF:​

  • Open Fracture

  • Extreme swelling/compartment syndrome- rare

  • Neuro-Vascular Impairment

  • Pathological fracture

  • >10 degrees axial alignment after manipulation or manipulation not possible

CLASSIFICATION

By Location

  • Proximal, Middle, Distal Third​

Fracture Pattern

  • Spiral, oblique, transverse, comminuted.
