Middle Third Clavicle Fracture

• 80% of Paediatric Clavicle Fractures

• Uncomplicated middle Third fractures have excellent functional and cosmetic outcome.

 

 

MANAGEMENT

• Analgesia

• ORTHO if: Very comminuted/shortened middle third, Pathological, Skin at risk, Open, NV injury

• All others even if significant displacement- BROAD ARM SLING (for 2 weeks or until comfortable) , Fracture clinic in 7-10 days

 

Advice For Parents

 

• Pain and decreased range of movement for 2-3 weeks

• Reattend if increasing pain or abrupt change in sensation.

• Avoid contact sports for 6 weeks post removal of sling.

• Lump may persist for up to 1 year.
