Olecranon Fracture

  • 5% of Paediatric elbow fracture

  • Associations with other fractures

    • Radial head dislocation

    • Lateral epicondyle fracture

    • Supracondylar fracture

    • Radial neck fracture

  • 80% are non-displaced​

  • Direct trauma to flexed elbow

  • or FOOSH with Valgus/Varus stresses to elbow

  • MECHANISM

  • or FOOSH with Valgus/Varus stresses to elbow

MANAGEMENT

  • Analgesia

  • Non-displaced:

    • above elbow backslab- 90 degree flexion with sling

    • Fracture Clinic

  • Displaced

    • Backslab with 90 degree flexion and sling​.
    • Refer ORTHO​

  • Refer ORTHO if:

  • Displaced fracture

  • Open fracture

  • Other associated fractures in same limb.

  • Neurovascular injury: Rare
