Tillaux Fracture
ASSOCIATED WITH
-
distal fibular fracture (usually SH I or II)
-
ipsilateral tibial shaft fracture
-
Salter-Harris type III fracture involving avulsion of the anterolateral corner of the distal tibial epiphysis
-
In children the growth plate is weaker than the anterior tibiofibular ligament and can become avulsed (in adults the ligament would give way first).
-
Tillaux fracture occurs in adolescents where the middle and medial parts of the epiphyseal plate have closed but lateral part is still open.
